STAGE 6 · LESSON 4 OF 5

Risk limits change across environments

The same method interacts differently with cash accounts, futures brokerage margin and evaluation constraints.

THE IDEA~8–12 MINUTES

Understand it

A personal brokerage account is subject to your capital, broker margin and exchange rules. A prop evaluation can impose additional daily stops, trailing drawdowns, position caps, news rules and payout conditions. Simulation may ignore some execution costs. Translate a strategy's historical path into the specific rules and check whether its intratrade drawdowns are actually observable in your data. Do not change a research result to 'fit' a provider after the fact without retesting.

WORKED EXAMPLE

A strategy's end-of-day profit series may miss a morning equity peak followed by a late pullback. That matters for intraday-trailing account limits even when the closing day is profitable.

Watch for this misconception

Assuming end-of-day P&L is enough to validate intraday max-drawdown compliance.

PRACTICE EXERCISE

Compare your hypothetical daily risk protocol against two different account rule sets.
