STAGE 5 · LESSON 1 OF 5

Separate decision quality from outcome

One profitable trade can be poorly executed; one losing trade can follow a sound plan.

THE IDEA~8–12 MINUTES

Understand it

Markets contain uncertainty. A correct process does not imply every trade will win, and a lucky profit does not justify violating a rule. Evaluate decisions using what was known beforehand: whether the signal was valid, size was in bounds, the risk limit was respected, and the exit matched the documented plan. Outcome statistics matter across many trades, but they are a different question.

WORKED EXAMPLE

A trader doubles size in frustration and wins. That profit does not make the sizing decision sound. Another trader takes a planned stop and loses; that can still be a high-quality execution.

Watch for this misconception

Grading every individual decision solely by whether it earned money.

PRACTICE EXERCISE

Describe a trade that would be counted as a process success despite a financial loss.
